Unemployment: Annual Population Survey, 2009-2011
Graph 1 uses the standard method of reporting unemployment - the unemployment rate - which calculates the rate of unemployment as a proportion of the economically active population
Most ethnic minority groups have much higher levels of unemployment than the White group (Graph 1). For men, the highest rates of unemployment are for Black Caribbeans and Black Africans (19% and 18% respectively). For women, unemployment rates are highest for Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Black Africans (20%, 19% and 18% respectively). Chinese men and women have rates of unemployment that are very similar to the White group (8% and 6% for men and women respectively for both Chinese and White groups).
